A good hotel beside a beach in France, in early Summer is an appealing prospect. It takes on an extra dimension when the beach is in Normandy and the date is June 6th, the anniversary of the D-Day landings.

We travel direct to and from France via Rosslare into Cherbourg, Normandy, and back through Rosscoff in Brittany. We spend the 5th, 6th and 7th of June at commemorative ceremonies and visiting World War II sites. There is some time for sightseeing in this beautiful part of France on our final two days.

The Mercure Cabourg Hippodrome is located near the centre of this popular beach resort. It is a modern 3 star property with a restaurant, a bar and an indoor swimming pool, just a couple of hours from Cherbourg, our port of entry and half and hour from Pegasus Bridge, Caen or Honfleur.
