Nestled on the border, Gretna is easily accessible from home and its location allows for easy access to the neighbouring English Lake District.  We explore the Lake District, spend the day in Glasgow, enjoy a tour of the recently opened Annandale Distillery and explre the fascinating Devils Porridge Museum - stirring stuff.

Hotel: Grenta Hall Hotel, Grenta *** (4 nights D,B&B)

 

The Gretna Hall is a fourth-generation family business which is very much part of the famous wedding traditions. Originally built in 1710 the hotel is set in 10 acres of beautiful gardens; offering all the character of a substantial historical building, with all the comfort you would expect from a contemporary hotel. There are 116 bedrooms each with TV, radio, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Hotel has a lift.

Day 1

We depart Belfast for the mid morning sailing with Stena Line arriving at our hotel late afternoon.

Day 2

A short journey today as we visit the Devil's Porridge Museum which commemorates HM Factory Grenta, the largest munitions factory in the world during the WWI. In the afternoon it is the Annandale Distillery for a guided tour and tasting.

Day 3

The Lake District today. We take the high Kirkstone Pass into the heart of Wordsworth's Lake Distirct. We spend time in Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere, calling at Grasmere on the way back to Gretna.

Today it is Glasgow, returning to our hotel for late afternoon.

We return on Belfast on the aftternoon Stena Line ferry
