Killaloe & the Mighty Shannon 2017

Killaloe & the Mighty Shannon 2017

The mighty River Shannon is the longest river in Ireland at 360.5 km

The mighty River Shannon is the longest river in Ireland at 360.5 km. It starts in Co Cavan and flows through Lough Derg before entering the Atlantic Ocean at Limerick. Situated at the southern end of the lough is The Lakeside Hotel, and it is from here that we have the perfect base from which to explore. We branch out to Limerick, Ireland’s third largest city, and to Adare, described as the prettiest. We awe at the Cliffs of Moher and enjoy an Irish Coffee at Foynes. To top it all off we of course travel on the River Shannon where memories are to be captured and treasured forever!

The family-friendly Lakeside Hotel and Leisure Centre has 43 en-suite bedrooms all with multi-channel TV and tea/coffee making facilities. There is free WiFi in public areas. You can relax in the spectacular award-winning landscaped gardens or unwind in the leisure centre with its swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

Please note the hotel does not have a lift but numerous ground floor rooms.

Day 1

We leave Belfast travelling south to arrive in Killaloe in midafternoon to a seasonal welcome taster as you step off the coach. There is a seasonal cookery demonstration and a recipe card to take home. Dinner is served in the Blair Suite Restaurant.

After a relaxing breakfast we travel to the heritage town of Adare, renowned as Ireland’s prettiest village. We follow this with a visit to Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum, to discover about the brave world of transatlantic air travel - and where Irish Coffee was invented! There is an Irish Night in the restaurant this evening with a themed menu to include sumptuous Irish classics such as Irish Stew and Beef and Guinness Casserole, followed by a live demonstration of Irish song and music.

Day 4

This morning we travel to the city of Limerick where we have arranged a guided tour of the Hunt Museum.
